Hyperplasia of pancreatic islets associated with extrapancreatic lymphoma and sarcoma.

چکیده
A preliminary study revealed pancreatic hyperplasia to be present in 29 per cent of 100 consecutive necropsies. Malignant neoplasms coexisted with hyperplasia of islets in 14 (48.3 per cent) of the 29 cases. On the basis of the results of this study, the islets of Langerhans in microscopic sections of pancreas from 20 cases of accidental death (normal controls), 10 cases of extrapancreatic lymphoma, and 12 cases of extrapancreatic sarcoma were quantitatively studied. Significant hyperplasia of the islets was present in both categories of neoplastic disease when compared with the islets in the control group. The assessment of hyperplasia of pancreatic islets was neither difficult nor complex when the observer assigned the proper significance to the presence of an increased percentage of large islets. The method for determining hyperplasia of islets and the significance of its presence are discussed. (Metabolism 14: No. 11, November, 11581168, 1965)

Comparison of inducible nitric oxide synthase activity in pancreatic islets of young and aged rats
Objective(s):Some pathologic situations such as diabetes and metabolic syndrome are associated with alternation in nitric oxide level. Incidence of these condition increases with aging. On the other hand, insulin secretion is modulated by nitric oxide, and nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity is also altered in diabetes. In this study, modification in the enzyme activity associated with aging a...
متن کاملHypothalamic and pancreatic lesions with diabetes mellitus.
A case is reported of a neoplasm of mixed mesenchymal and neuroepithelial origin consisting of plasmacytoma, lymphoma, ganglioneuroma, and astrocytoma in the same mass. The tumour arose in the hypothalamus of a 43 year old diabetic woman who also had alpha cell hyperplasia and beta cell hypoplasia of the islets of Langerhans. It is suggested that both hypothalamic and pancreatic lesions produce...
متن کاملA Rare Case of Pheochromocytoma Presenting as Cervical Mass
Introduction: Angiofollicular lymph node hyperplasia (ALNH) or Castleman’s disease (CD) is an unusual benign non-neoplastic lymphoproliferative disease. CD can present as a localised mass. In this paper a rare case of Castleman’s disease in a 34 years old woman with a cervical mass is presented. Case Presentation: A 34 years-old woman presented in July 2018 with a painful mass neck that was app...
متن کاملImprovement of the functionality of pancreatic Langerhans islets via reduction of bacterial contamination and apoptosis using phenolic compounds
Objective(s): During type-1 diabetes treating by pancreatic islet transplantation, increasing oxidative stress and microbial contaminations are the main reasons of transplantation failure. In this study, we evaluated anti-apoptotic, antioxidant and antimicrobial potentials of phenolic compounds called ellagic acid (EA) and silybin on rat pancreatic islets. Materials and Methods: By doing MTT as...
متن کاملSalvianolic acid B improves insulin secretion from interleukin 1β-treated rat pancreatic islets: The role of PI3K-Akt signaling
Background and Objective: Oxidative stress induced by proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β plays a major role in β-cell destruction in diabetes type 1. Salvianolic acid B (Sal B) is a polyphenolic compound with antioxidant and protective effects. Thus, objective of this study was to assess the protection exerted by Sal B on isolated rat islets exposed to IL-1β and to investigate an underlyin...
